Course Summary

Welcome to the LWIT's Practical Nursing program. This program enables the students to gain specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to successfully pass the National Council License Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Specifically, the program prepares the graduate to function within the scope of practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse, which is "the performance of selected acts, including the administration of treatments and medications, in the care of the ill, injured or infirm and the promotion of wellness, maintainence of health, and prevention of illness of others under the direction of a registered nurse, a licensed physician or licensed dentist. The 1350 hour program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences in both acute and long term care settings. The first 165 hours include the Health Science CORE (OCP A) and Articulated Nursing Assistant (OCP B). Continued instruction resulting in a certificate in Practical Nursing include anatomy and physiology, nutrition, mental mealth concepts, nursing process and advanced nursing skills, pharmacology, nursing principles for adult medical-surgical clients as well as mothers, newborns and children.
